In a deeply emotional post, BBC star Finnian Garbutt, 28, has revealed that he is now in a hospice, marking the heartbreaking final chapter of his battle with terminal cancer. The Hope Street actor shared the painful news with his fans and supporters on Instagram, sending shockwaves through the entertainment world.
The young actor, known for his role as Ryan Power on the popular Northern Irish crime drama, has been fighting cancer for several years. In an Instagram post that has left fans heartbroken, Finnian revealed that his cancer has “progressed rapidly” and that he is now in the “last stages” of his life.
He posted a picture of himself lying in a hospice bed, writing: “A day in bed supplied by @nihospice. Thank you to all who have supported me and my family. (sic) I will no longer be sharing my GoFundMe page, but it is still active in my bio. Love you all folks.”
Earlier this month, Finnian shared with his followers that his cancer had advanced quickly. Diagnosed at just 25 years old after finding a lump behind his ear, he initially thought it was a minor issue, but when his barber pointed out that the lump had grown “quite substantially,” he sought medical attention. By 2022, Finnian was diagnosed with Stage 3 skin cancer, which had spread to his neck.
The brave actor underwent a grueling 12-hour surgery in which 75 lymph nodes were removed from his face and neck. Despite the hardships, Finnian has remained open and candid with his fans, sharing his health updates to cherish the moments with his loved ones.
In his emotional post, he wrote: “Over the last month, I’ve been having quite a bit of pain in my back and hip. My cancer team admitted me the other day for observations and scans. Unfortunately, the scans have shown that the cancer has progressed rapidly in my body, and I am now entering the last stages of life.”
Finnian continued: “I’m sharing this because it’s really hard to tell people individually, and now that it’s out in the open, I can enjoy the time with my amazing family and friends.”
Despite the heartache, Finnian reflects on his achievements: “Since being diagnosed four years ago, I have achieved so many of my life goals – 30 episodes on a TV show, being the lead in a movie that should be out soon, buying my own house, marrying my best friend, and becoming a father to the most incredible baby girl who never fails to make me smile.”
In closing, he thanked everyone who had supported him throughout his journey: “Thank you to all who have reached out and supported me and my family. If anyone wants to meet up for a pint, coffee, or just a chat, please reach out, and we can try to make it work.”
Finnian’s courage in the face of such devastating news has moved many, reminding us all of the importance of love, family, and living life to the fullest.
