KIRK SUTHERLAND’S TIME TO SHINE? THE EXPL0SIVE RESPONSE FROM A CORRIE LEGEND!

ITV
Coronation Street star Andy Whyment has responded to calls for his character, Kirk Sutherland, to be given a major new storyline. After 26 years on the ITV soap, what could be next for the beloved character?
Whyment has had a long history with the soap, having first appeared in a different role way back in 1990. After getting his big break as Kirk a decade later, the actor has been a staple of the series.
He has also moved with the times in his personal life as he embraced social media, and recently set up a TikTok account to showcase his personal life as well as behind-the-scenes content from the cobbles of Weatherfield.
In a recent video, Whyment did a tour of the set and showed his morning routine at work, with plenty of fans leaving comments. One fan suggested that Kirk needed a “big storyline”, to which the actor replied: “I just love being a part of the show.”
Another followed echoed this sentiment, writing: “He is due a big storyline, love his humour in the soap.” A third fan offered a more measured response, however, suggesting that the soap needed characters who “live their life” to maintain “realism”.
Whyment was also asked about his typical work day, with some followers enquiring as to the length of a filming session, while others asked if the actor had to pay for the haircuts he gets on the set.
“Depends on how many scenes you’ve got, sometimes you might just have one and are only in work for a couple of hours, but then you get days where you have five or more scenes and you’re in all day, my earliest call time is 7.40 and can be in until 18.45,” he replied.
