Si King, star of The Hairy Bikers, has bravely revealed the real reason behind his split from his wife of 27 years, Jane, admitting that the pressures of fame ultimately destroyed their marriage. The couple, who share three grown-up children—Alex, James, and Dylan—have now parted ways, but Si’s candid confession sheds light on the emotional toll of balancing fame and family life.
In an honest interview with The Telegraph, Si shared the painful details of how his hectic work schedule during the height of The Hairy Bikers’ success led to a disconnection from his family. “I wasn’t there during the height of our success,” he explained. “I had no idea what was going on in everyone’s day-to-day lives, and it was a struggle.”
As Si reflected on the toll his career took on his personal life, he admitted that he became emotionally inconsistent, unable to cope with the overwhelming demands of fame and the strain it placed on his relationship with Jane. “What happens is you become emotionally inconsistent because you don’t know where to put your feelings,” he said. “That’s incredibly hard for Jane, especially as the mother of my children. It’s the most destructive thing because no one knows where they stand, and there’s no real sense of security.”
Si confessed that this emotional chaos was a devastating blow to his marriage. “I completely lost myself,” he revealed. “It wasn’t horrible, but it was a private struggle that I kept to myself, away from family and friends.” His candidness about feeling lost during such a tumultuous time resonates with many who have experienced the pressures of balancing a demanding career with personal relationships.

In a previous interview with Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine back in 2016, Si shared that both he and Jane had “lost each other” over time. “Jane was focused on the family, and I was focused on my work. The reality is, the industry we work in is brutal—there are constant deadlines and pressures. Some people can handle it, but I found it really difficult,” he explained.
Since the split, Si has had a few romantic relationships, including one with Australian chef Michele Cranston. However, their long-distance engagement ended in 2021. In June 2024, Si revealed that he’s found solace and support in a new girlfriend, named only as Jen. Talking to The Guardian, Si praised Jen for being “hugely supportive” during the tough time following the death of his close friend and Hairy Bikers co-star, Dave Myers.
“She’s been incredible throughout everything,” Si shared. “Having someone by your side who truly understands you during life’s darkest moments means everything.”
Si King’s raw and honest reflections on his past marriage and new beginnings serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of emotional well-being and the challenges of navigating a public life. While the end of his marriage was painful, Si is slowly finding peace in his personal life, with the unwavering support of his loved ones.
