PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) – A man was arrested after a woman was found stabbed to death inside a home in Oregon.
Officers responded to a stabbing report near Southeast Foster Road and Southeast 143rd Court in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
They arrived to find a woman dead, with five children inside the home at the time.
Because officers were unsure if the suspect was still in the house with the children or if there were more victims, they called for tactical units and a negotiation team to respond to the scene.
Once in place, crews searched the house, and at one point, they used explosives to open the garage door.
No other victims were found, and police determined the suspect had left the house.
Neighbor Julia Mannthey told KPTV she saw police rescue the children from the home, and said she was heartbroken.
“They just looked numb to the situation, like they couldn’t process their emotions,” Mannthey said. “Just so sad, I feel so bad for them.”
Eventually, police said they found the suspect in Vancouver, Washington.
Vancouver police worked with the Portland Police Bureau to contact the suspect and take him into custody at 3:50 p.m.
Police said the suspect’s name is not being released at this time. No other suspects are currently wanted in connection with the crime.
“It’s scary, it’s very startling,” said neighbor Shawn Lioyryan. “It is scary to see such a heavy police presence. It is a neighborhood where I ultimately feel safe. I don’t see much police because it’s not needed, so to see so much police activity is definitely alarming.”
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
