Tragic Death of Finnian Garbutt: The Beloved Hope Street Star Passes Away at 28 After Courageous Battle with Cancer
Finnian Garbutt, the talented actor best known for his role as Ryan Power in the Northern Irish drama Hope Street, has tragically passed away at the age of 28. His death comes just one month after he revealed his terminal cancer diagnosis, and just days after sharing a heartbreaking update with his fans.
In an emotional social media post, Finnian shared that he had been given a hospice care bed and was preparing for his final days. His family confirmed the sad news on Friday, expressing their gratitude to everyone who had supported them during this incredibly difficult time.
“He passed peacefully at home, as he wished, surrounded by his family,” his loved ones said in an Instagram statement. “We want to thank everyone for their support, their kind words, and for being with us during this really difficult time.”
The family also expressed their deep appreciation for the donations made to Finnian’s GoFundMe page, which they say brought him peace and comfort during his final days. “The peace of mind you all gave Finn during his last days made his passing so much easier to bear,” they wrote.
As his family mourns the loss of their son, husband, and father, they also shared heartfelt tributes. “We will always love and miss you, Finn,” the statement continued. “You were the greatest husband, father, son, brother, and friend we could ever ask for. Knowing that you’re no longer in pain gives us comfort, despite our own immense pain at losing you.”
Finnian’s death follows a courageous four-year battle with skin cancer. Diagnosed initially with malignant melanoma, the actor had undergone multiple surgeries and treatments in hopes of overcoming the disease. However, just weeks before his passing, Finnian shared that his cancer had progressed to Stage IV melanoma, and he was now in the last stages of his life.
Despite the devastating prognosis, Finnian remained determined to live life to the fullest, cherishing time with his family and friends. In a post from March 25, Finnian thanked his supporters for their ongoing love and shared his commitment to enjoying every precious moment with his loved ones.
“I’ve achieved so many of my life goals – 30 episodes in a TV show, being the lead in a movie (which should be out soon), buying my own house, marrying my best friend, and becoming a father to the most incredible baby girl who never fails to make me smile,” he shared.
Garbutt, who made his mark on Hope Street in 2023, had recently spoken about how the disease had deeply impacted his life, yet he continued to encourage others to get their skin checked regularly, urging early detection as the key to preventing melanoma from spreading.
His family has requested privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss, and they will soon announce funeral details.
Finnian Garbutt’s legacy, however, will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace, Finn. You will never be forgotten.
