Kate Garraway has sparked fresh speculation about her love life after appearing happier than ever alongside broadcaster Liam Halligan — more than two years after the devastating death of her husband, Derek Draper.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 59, was seen cosying up to Liam on Friday as she showed support ahead of his gruelling 300km London-to-Paris charity bike ride. The pair, who have known each other for over two decades, posed smiling together before he set off on the emotional challenge.
Liam later shared an update online, writing: “It’s today! London-to-Paris in 24 hours, 300km, on a tandem.”
The broadcaster is taking on the ride with cycling partner Serge Kogan in aid of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a condition Liam himself was diagnosed with as a child.
Kate’s appearance beside him comes after Liam openly admitted during an interview on TalkTV that the pair have become “good friends” in recent months — and hinted there could potentially be more to come.
Speaking candidly, he explained: “I’ve known her for a long time, I knew Derek… In recent years for different reasons, we have both become single, against our wishes.”
He continued: “So, in recent weeks and months, Kate and I have become good friends… it’s early days, we’ll see what happens.”
Liam also revealed Kate recently attended one of his band’s performances in his hometown of Saffron Walden, where locals reportedly spotted the pair looking “really into each other” while enjoying an evening of singing and dancing at The Railway Arms pub.
Friends close to Kate say Liam has brought laughter back into her life during an incredibly painful chapter following Derek’s death from Covid complications in January 2024.
One friend told the Daily Mail: “Kate has formed a close friendship with Liam and they really enjoy one another’s company. Liam makes her laugh, he is very funny.”
The insider added: “It has been really tough for Kate since Derek died, and she is a mother to two children and they are all still grieving… It’s lovely to see Kate smiling again.”
The reported romance comes after Kate described filming Celebrity Traitors for the BBC as a “transformative” experience while navigating life after heartbreak.
