MAFS Australia fans were left in tears last night as the final episode of the 2026 series paid a heartfelt tribute to beloved relationship expert Mel Schilling, who passed away in March aged 54 after a brave battle with stage 4 cancer.

The montage, which closed the series, featured clips of Mel smiling with this year’s brides, hugging co-stars, and offering her trademark wisdom alongside John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla. Fans were moved as her voice reflected on love and personal growth:
“Yes, this experiment is about finding love but there’s also another very important stream that runs through this experiment. It is about personal development, it is about finding your worth, about learning to find your voice and to really believe that you deserve love.”

Mel’s family was also featured, including touching shots with her husband Gareth and daughter Maddie—the same image shared when news of her death broke. One particularly poignant moment saw Mel recalling how she met Gareth later in life:
“He says, ‘You’re my soulmate’. He says he can stop looking because he’s found me.”
The tribute concluded with a montage spanning her 12-series tenure on MAFS, leaving viewers heartbroken as the screen faded to black with her final words:
“Thank you so much for your time in this experiment. For your courage, your authenticity. We salute you and wish you all the best and all the happiness in the world.”
Social media quickly erupted with grief and admiration. One fan wrote: “That ending left me in tears. Seeing Mel’s husband and her daughter and thinking of the pain they must be going through. Heartbreaking.” Another added: “The tribute to Mel was beautiful. Fly high angel. This experiment will never be the same going forward.”
Mel joined the MAFS Australia franchise in 2016 and became one of its most adored experts, celebrated for her warmth, honesty, and no-nonsense advice. She died peacefully on March 24, 2026, surrounded by her family.
