Coronation Street star Jude Riordan has admitted that he, and not his Weatherfield alter-ego, has suffered an unfortunate injury as his latest storyline took a devastating turn.

As fans of the ITV soap know, the teenage actor plays Sam Blakeman, and has done since his debut in 2020, when the character was revealed as the son of Nick Tilsley and the late Natasha Blakeman.

While having been involved in a number of big storylines over the years, Jude appears to be tackling Sam’s biggest plot to date. As viewers have seen, Sam hasn’t been himself ever since he discovered that Will Dricoll was being groomed by his coach and teacher, Megan Walsh.

When the pair realised what Sam knew, Megan threatened him into keeping it quiet. But eventually, Sam ended up in hospital after taking too many tablets not prescribed to him, and usually used for those with ADHD, as he struggled with Megan’s threats and school pressures.

While in the hospital, he eventually confessed what he knew to step-mother Leanne Battersby and her sister, Eva Price, who is Will’s stepmother. The bombshell has since left the Driscolls in turmoil, with Will having spent weeks standing by his and Megan’s story that he had an out-of-control crush she tried to shut down.

Alongside the Driscolls, trying to get justice for Will, who has now been seen reporting Megan to the police, viewers have seen Sam’s mental state deteriorate. After thinking he had been terrorised by Will, it was revealed that Sam had been alone all along, confirming fans’ suspicions that he’s been experiencing visual and auditory hallucinations.

As the hard-hitting storyline plays out, Jude was seen taking to social media on Friday (May 15) to share that he had suffered an unfortunate injury. Sharing a snap of himself in the corridors at Corrie’s Salford-based building, the young star could be seen on crutches and his foot in a moon boot.

“A fractured ankle,” he typed alongside the image. “Unfortunately irl [in real life], not Sam!” Jude then added in a comment: “What a week,” alongside a sad face emoji.

Jude’s update came as fans were left heartbroken to see Sam’s hallucinations worsen during Friday’s (May 15) edition of Corrie. After Nick and Toyah Battersby asked Roy Cropper if he could spend some time with Sam player chess, the beloved cafe owner. But worryingly, when Roy had to pop out to a builder at Roy’s Rolls, Sam hallucinated his pal, who ended up sharing how Nick might not actually want him in his life.

When the real Roy returned, Sam thanked him for being so honest with him. Later, as their time together came to an end, Roy expressed his concerns to Nick and Toyah about the teen’s anxious state. Sam then met up with Roy again, but in a damaging twist, he warned Sam to ‘trust no one’ and that people like them had a lot of enemies because they felt ‘threatened’ by their intellectual way of thinking. But as viewers again saw, Roy wasn’t talking to Sam and it was all in his mind.
