SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) – A Slidell man is in jail after authorities say he fatally struck a 6-year-old boy with his vehicle and fled.
St. Tammany Parish deputies responded just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, near Northshore Lane after reports that a child on a scooter was hit in a driveway, according to the sheriff’s office.
The boy’s family identified him as Jeremiah Ramirez. His mother took him to a local hospital, where he later died.

Investigators say the vehicle was a gray 2022 Chevrolet Suburban.
Deputies spotted it later Wednesday on East Gause Boulevard, conducted a traffic stop and arrested Cody Beaudette, 35.

Beaudette was booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail on counts of vehicular homicide, reckless operation, felony hit-and-run and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, the sheriff’s office said.
“This is a horrific tragedy for our community,” Sheriff Smith said. “And it is a tragedy that could have been prevented by careful driving and the obedience of traffic laws.”
