A BOMB Squad has been scrambled to a Scottish RAF base after a suspicious item was found.
The package was discovered during a security search at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray this morning.
Military and emergency crews sealed off the area and closed down roads amid the incident.
Several homes at the air base have also been evacuated as a precaution.
Bomb techs from the EOD have been deployed to the vital military site to examine the suspicious item.
A RAF spokesperson said: “I can confirm that during a routine security search at RAF Lossiemouth, a suspicious package was found.
“EOD has been notified a cordon is in place, and we are working with civilian agencies to resolve the issue.”
The Royal Air Force also confirmed this is not part of an ongoing exercise at the base.
Military personnel have been taking part in Exercise Agile Warrior – a planned major homeland defence training activity.
The RAF spokesperson added: “This is not part of the previously advertised exercise activity”.
