Denise Welch has officially marked 14 years of sobriety, celebrating a monumental milestone in her life after battling alcohol addiction. The Loose Women star shared the raw truth behind her struggles with alcohol, revealing how blackouts and the chaos of drinking led to destructive arguments and emotional turmoil in her relationship.
Reflecting on her journey, Denise recalled the darkest moments: âAt my worst, Iâd suffer blackouts. I was in the middle of arguments and fights, and I couldnât see how bad it had gotten.â But, with incredible determination, she turned her life around, and today she stands stronger than ever.
The turning point came when Denise met her husband, Lincoln Townley, who was also sober. She credits him for changing her life, writing on Instagram, âI canât imagine what my life would be like without meeting @lincolntownley. We were lucky to be each otherâs anchor, helping each other through the toughest times.â
In her heartfelt message, Denise explained, âWe were both drinkers when we met at 6am in a nightclub, but that was the only time we couldâve crossed paths. The drinking caused blackouts, terrible decisions, and fights, but sobriety brought clarity and peace.â
The pair didnât follow traditional recovery methods like AA, but Deniseâs willpower was the key to her sobriety. She added, âI didnât rely on a higher power. It was my own will that got me sober.â
As Denise celebrates her sobriety, she also looks forward to the next chapter of her life, saying, âAt nearly 68, Iâm having a renaissance, and Iâm loving every minute of it!â She shared that she has multiple exciting acting projects coming up and feels healthier and happier than ever.
But Deniseâs transformation didnât end with her sobriety. She also realized that she was in danger of swapping one addiction for anotherâfood. âI realized I was replacing alcohol with food, and I started bingeing,â she admitted. However, with support from her family and a bit of self-awareness, she managed to overcome this challenge as well.
Denise, who lost two stone through a combination of hard work and mental discipline, reflects on her transformation with a smile. âIâve never been super fit, but I knew that my health needed to come first. Weight loss wasnât just about appearanceâit was about breathing better and living life to the fullest.â
Today, Deniseâs life is a celebration of triumph over adversity. âWe miss nothing about our drinking days,â she says. âInstead, we laugh about our stories and cherish the lessons learned.â
With Lincoln, their children thriving, and the joy of being grandparents, life is brighter than ever. âLife is good,â she says, reflecting on the happiness that sobriety has brought her. Hereâs to 14 yearsâand countingâof embracing life with open arms
