Emma Willis Reveals How Heart Surgery Shattered Her World – And Completely Changed Her Outlook on Life

In a shocking revelation, TV presenter Emma Willis has opened up about her terrifying heart surgery last year that forced her to reassess her entire perspective on life. The star, known for her role on Celebrity Sabotage, had no idea that a simple medical check-up would uncover a life-threatening condition.

After undergoing keyhole heart surgery in March 2025, Emma shared that her world completely shifted. In a candid interview, she confessed that the terrifying diagnosis left her rethinking everything – especially her role as a mother.

“I Had No Idea There Was Anything Wrong With Me”

Emma, 50, who shares three children with Busted’s Matt Willis, spoke openly about her diagnosis, which came as a huge shock. She revealed that an MRI scan showed she had “an enlarged heart” on one side, leading to immediate referral to a cardiologist.

“I lived for 48 years not knowing anything was wrong,” Emma admitted. But it wasn’t until her doctor told her, “You need surgery, or this will become life-limiting,” that she realized the gravity of the situation.Love is Blind UK: 'It's a very British version' - BBC News

“It was terrifying,” she said, adding that it made her “more present” than she had ever been in her life. Emma became hyper-aware of her family, doing everything she could to be there for her children while awaiting surgery.

Surgery That Changed Everything

When Emma went into surgery to have a device implanted to close the hole in her heart, she was filled with fear. “I was so terrified that something might go wrong,” she confessed. But the operation was a success, and Emma quickly returned to her duties, though not without a new outlook on life.

“I’ve had heart palpitations my whole life, but never thought much of it. After the surgery, though, the palpitations have reduced,” Emma said. “But I might have them forever… My heart has to re-learn how to function without a hole.”Love Is Blind' U.K. Host Emma Willis Underwent Surgery for Hole in Her Heart

A Life Transformed – Emma’s Journey To Recovery

In the months following her surgery, Emma has become an advocate for the British Heart Foundation, sharing her story to help raise awareness about heart  health. She has also opened up about how the experience has reshaped her relationship with Matt and their children.

Her husband Matt, who previously revealed their relationship had been “transformed” through couples’ therapy, shared how the trauma of Emma’s health scare brought them closer. “It’s been transformative,” he said. “We weren’t in trouble, but there were things we needed to work through, and therapy has helped.”

Emma’s Newfound Perspective

Emma admits that she had always lived “blissfully unaware” of her heart condition. “It’s amazing what happens in our bodies that we don’t even know about,” she said, marveling at modern medicine.

But beyond the physical healing, Emma’s mental transformation is what stands out. “I’m more present than I’ve ever been,” she said. The experience has not only altered her approach to life but also deepened her love and appreciation for her family.

“I’m just grateful for every moment. I want to make sure I’m here for my kids,” she shared, a sentiment that has truly redefined her relationship with time and family.

Emma’s incredible journey serves as a powerful reminder of how fragile life can be – and how important it is to be present in every moment. 💖
