Jesy Nelson has shared an emotional update that has left fans heartbroken, revealing her nine-month-old twin daughters are currently receiving treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The former Little Mix star, 34, posted deeply moving images of Ocean and Story lying side by side in a hospital bed, wrapped in blankets and wearing matching leg splints as part of their ongoing care. Though Jesy did not go into detail about the exact treatment, the quiet image spoke volumes about the reality the family is facing.

Earlier this year, Jesy revealed that her daughters had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a rare and devastating genetic condition that causes muscles to weaken due to the loss of motor nerve cells. In its most severe form, Type 1, the disease can lead to death before the age of two without early intervention.
In a recent post, Jesy described a visit to a Scottish laboratory that has become the first in the UK to screen newborns for SMA. Calling it an “emotional day,” she admitted the news was “bittersweet,” adding that early testing could have made her daughters’ lives “look so different.”

Despite the overwhelming prognosis, Jesy has refused to step back from the spotlight entirely. Instead, she made the difficult decision to continue filming her Prime Video series after her daughters’ diagnosis, explaining: “As hard as it was, we were like, ‘You know what? There’s a reason you guys are here, and we’ve got to make the best out of this situation.’”
Her determination has since turned into a powerful campaign. Jesy has been advocating for newborn SMA screening across the UK, a mission that gained momentum when her petition surpassed 100,000 signatures — forcing a parliamentary debate.
Overcome with emotion at the milestone, she said: “I cannot actually put into words how grateful I am… Thank you to every single person that took time out of their day to sign this petition. You have no idea how much this means to me and the SMA community.”

Amid the fight, Jesy has also faced personal heartbreak, splitting from fiancé Zion Foster, the father of her twins. Yet she continues to push forward, recently becoming an official patron of SMA UK.
Speaking candidly about daily life, Jesy admitted the reality of caring for Ocean and Story is relentless and often unbearable. She revealed that the treatments can leave her feeling like she is hurting her own children as they cry and scream, describing some days as “really fing s.”
Still, she holds onto hope.
“So spinal muscular atrophy is a muscular wasting disease… if you don’t get them treatment in time… they will die before the age of two,” she explained. “It’s not okay, but it is what it is… My girls are the strongest, most resilient babies and I really believe that they are going to defy all the odds.”
For now, Jesy has placed her music career on hold, making it clear where her priorities lie. She said: “My girls are my whole heart and soul… I want to continue advocating for them… because that’s going to determine their future.”
