Rapper Aitch, real name Harrison Armstrong, is using his platform to challenge the stigma surrounding Down Syndrome, sharing why his sister Gracie, 16, is the “best person in the world” and how she has transformed his life. In a deeply personal moment on The Assembly, Aitch opens up about his close bond with Gracie and why he believes her condition is something to celebrate, not pity.
Aitch, who is an ambassador for the Down’s Syndrome Association, has long spoken out in support of people with disabilities. During tonight’s episode, he shared why he decided to participate in the show, admitting that he initially didn’t know much about it but was drawn in by the opportunity to raise awareness. “I wanted to go on The Assembly to make people with disabilities feel equal and show love to everyone,” Aitch said. “It wasn’t just about the Down’s Syndrome Association; it was about showing love to everyone with a disability.”
Gracie, a twin, has always been at the center of Aitch’s world. He said, “I don’t want Down Syndrome to be seen as a negative thing. I want people to understand that it’s a blessing. You’re going to have the best time of your life as long as you’re spending it with that person.”
Aitch’s emotional remarks extended beyond just advocating for those with disabilities. He opened up about the current abortion laws surrounding Down Syndrome, revealing that it saddens him that parents can choose to terminate a pregnancy up until the day of birth if the child is diagnosed with Down Syndrome. “It just doesn’t sit right with me,” Aitch confessed.
The rapper has always maintained that his sister has made him a better person. “I wouldn’t even be half the person I am if she wasn’t here. She teaches me lessons that I didn’t even realize until after. She changed my life,” Aitch shared. One of his most treasured memories is when Gracie would grab his face before bed and say, “Harrison, don’t be afraid.”
Reflecting on the impact Gracie has had on him, Aitch added: “It’s taught me to treat everyone the same. To understand that everyone is a human.”
The bond between Aitch and Gracie has captured the hearts of viewers ever since their appearance together on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, where their relationship quickly became one of the show’s most heartwarming moments. Aitch’s powerful words about Down Syndrome continue to spread love and inspire those who have followed his journey.
