Phillip Schofield will replace Scott Mills on Radio 2, the BBC has announced.
Mills was sacked from his BBC Radio 2 show following allegations about his ‘personal conduct’ relating to a historic relationship, with producers quickly hiring former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield as his replacement.
“We couldn’t believe no one had snapped him up yet,” said Simon Williams, producer of the breakfast show on BBC Radio 2.
“You couldn’t ask for someone with more experience in the entertainment industry. Phil was a stalwart for years and years and then for some reason he just suddenly disappeared from TV without any explanation. Unless I’m missing something?
“We were going to go with Greg Wallace, but apparently people don’t like him much anymore. Luckily there’s no such issue with Phil. He’s still revered and respected by the public and has never done anything to make anybody think otherwise. He’s a great bloke and we’re happy to have him.
“Obviously there was that whole thing about Holly and Phil skipping the queue to see the Queen’s casket, but you can’t have a go at someone for being patriotic. If loving your country is the worst thing he’s ever done, then I think we can live with that.
“Hang on, what’s this Channel 5 advert? ‘The Downfall of Phillip Schofield’ starring Robson Green.
“Oh boy, this can’t be good.”
