Jesy Nelson has shared an emotional tribute to her twin daughters, Ocean and Story, as they celebrate their first birthday, just months after being diagnosed with SMA1 (spinal muscular atrophy), a severe genetic condition affecting muscle strength.
Posting to Instagram, Jesy wrote: “Happy 1st birthday my Ocean and Story bear. I love you more than you will ever know… My tiny little super humans. The strongest, most resilient little fighters I’ve ever known.”
The celebration was filled with joy despite the difficult first year. Snapshots showed a princess-themed two-tier cake, balloons, a giant light-up ‘ONE’, and Jesy smiling alongside her girls and friends. She also shared an emotional video reflecting on their health battles, milestones, and treatments, reading the 1987 poem Welcome to Holland by Emily Perl Kingsley, capturing the experience of raising a child with a disability.
Jesy has campaigned tirelessly for NHS newborn screening for SMA, meeting with MPs and even visiting the Prime Minister’s residence to raise awareness. She thanked her supporters, saying, “I’m so appreciative of all the support and love, thank you so much.”
Despite challenges, Jesy’s heartfelt posts highlight her love and pride for her daughters, celebrating their courage and resilience on this milestone day.
