Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson, 34, has shared a truly moving update that’s left fans reaching for the tissues. Her 1-year-old twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, recently achieved a major developmental milestone — a moment made all the more remarkable given their ongoing battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1).
Taking to Instagram, Jesy proudly revealed that her little girls had eaten in their specialised feeding chairs for the very first time. In a heartwarming video, both babies sit safely strapped in their high chairs, complete with extra neck support and waist straps, happily enjoying pureed food. Jesy couldn’t hide her emotions, teasing Ocean: “Excuse me, you’re supposed to eat it, not spit it out,” before turning her attention to Story, capturing every precious smile and giggle.
This milestone is especially poignant considering the twins’ severe genetic condition, which weakens their muscles and makes everyday tasks a challenge. Jesy has been candid about the family’s journey, opening up about their SMA1 diagnosis back in January and the day-to-day adjustments — from leg splints and feeding tubes to physiotherapy sessions designed to support their movement and breathing.
Fans have been touched by Jesy’s joy as she celebrated another breakthrough: Story saying “muma” for the very first time. Sharing the video, Jesy cheered: “Yeahhhhhh! Yesss clever girl. Storyyy good girl, you’re such a clever girl. Wow well done. Yeah do it again.” She captioned the post: “My heart is so full.”
Despite doctors’ warnings about potential feeding, walking, and breathing difficulties, Jesy is savoring every small victory — gently stretching their legs, celebrating each new skill, and documenting these special moments. Beyond her devotion as a mother, she is also raising awareness for SMA1, reminding families that they are not alone in their journey.
Jesy previously said: “If talking about this helps one family feel seen, then it’s worth it.” With milestones like these, Ocean and Story’s journey continues to inspire and touch hearts around the world.
