Kate Garraway “screams in delight” at Shocktoberfest – the brave single mum facing her fears and life’s changes after the loss of her husband

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has shown once again that she’s stronger than she gives herself credit for. The 58-year-old broadcaster shared a heartwarming — and slightly terrifying — update with fans after visiting Shocktoberfest at Tulleys Farm with her 16-year-old son Billy.

Posting a hilarious video of them laughing and shrieking their way through the haunted attraction, Kate wrote: “It takes a lot to impress my 16-year-old and his mates, but #tulleysfarm #shocktoberfest did so with bells on. ‘Better than ever!’ was the verdict. Serious. Screaming in the best possible way!!”

The ITV host, who has been raising her two children alone following the death of her husband Derek Draper earlier this year, confessed that the spooky day out tested her courage. “I’m going with my 19-year-old next — if I’m brave enough!” she added with a laugh.

Kate’s followers flooded her comments with praise and support, with one fan writing: “I’d be terrified too, but it looks brilliant!” Another said: “This is awesome, Kate — so glad you’re having fun again.”

Earlier, the star shared a moving video reflecting on the bittersweet milestones of her kids growing up. Sitting in her car, she recalled the many school drop-offs she once shared with Derek. “I’ve sat here with a cup of tea with Derek on their first day of school… waiting outside for GCSE results,” she said softly. “Now I’m just dropping off for the first day of sixth form, far enough away to give them space but close enough to see them walk in. There’s something about that moment — when they’re anxious but trying to be strong — that just gets me every time.”

Kate, holding back tears, added that she still plans to stay nearby at pick-up time, joking about her “car picnic” while waiting to see them emerge with their friends. Her honesty about juggling fear, love, and grief struck a chord with fans — a reminder that even through heartbreak, Kate Garraway continues to face life’s scariest challenges with courage and warmth.
