A highly contentious broadcast interview between Reform UK Chairman Zia Yusuf and Sky News presenter Cathy Newman has ignited fierce debate over media bias and the political framing of the Henry Nowak murder.
The clash occurred as Newman attempted to press Yusuf on Nigel Farage’s recent demands that the public respond to the police’s handling of the 18-year-old’s death with “pure cold rage,” and Farage’s assertions of systemic “anti-white prejudice.”

The “White Lives Matter” Exchange
The interview quickly derailed when Yusuf challenged Newman on the context of Farage’s remarks. Yusuf noted that Farage had explicitly stated that “white lives matter as much as black lives,” and repeatedly asked the Sky News anchor if she agreed with that specific statement.
Newman refused to directly answer the question, citing her role as an objective journalist. “My job is to hold you to account, so I’m asking you questions,” Newman stated, before pressing Yusuf to acknowledge the “overwhelming evidence” of historical police racism against black and minority ethnic people, referencing the Macpherson report and the Casey review.
Yusuf expressed mock astonishment at Newman’s refusal to validate the statement. “I’m kind of stunned that you couldn’t bring yourself to say that you agree with the statement that white lives matter as much as black lives,” Yusuf responded.
Accusations of Media Hypocrisy
The exchange culminated with Yusuf accusing Newman and the broader UK media establishment of blatant hypocrisy regarding the intersection of race and police violence.
Yusuf challenged the premise that it is “wholly inappropriate” for politicians to express fury or demand political ramifications following the release of the Nowak bodycam footage. He directly quoted Newman’s own past journalistic work regarding the 2020 murder of George Floyd, noting that Newman had previously written an article expressing delight that the Black Lives Matter movement had “transported the rage of George Floyd’s death across the four corners of the globe.”
“A totally different reaction… not just from you,” Yusuf argued, attributing the differing media and political responses directly to race. “The reality is this: because Henry was a white man.”
The clip of the exchange has since gone viral among conservative and right-wing political commentary channels, who have utilized Yusuf’s remarks to further amplify allegations that Britain operates under a “two-tier” justice and policing system.
