Sara Cox Replaces Scott Mills as BBC Radio 2’s New Breakfast Show Host – What’s Next for the Iconic Slot

Sara Cox Takes the Reins of BBC Radio 2’s Iconic Breakfast Show, Replacing Scott Mills

Sara Cox has been appointed as the new host of BBC Radio 2’s highly coveted weekday Breakfast Show, replacing Scott Mills, who was dismissed last month following serious allegations of sexual offences.

Cox, 51, who has enjoyed a successful run hosting Radio 2’s Teatime Show from 4 PM to 7 PM, will take over the morning slot this summer. The announcement has been met with excitement, as Cox has become a beloved figure at the station since joining in 2011.

In a statement, Cox expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show, but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured, and incredibly chuffed.” She added, “It’s been a dream to host the Breakfast Show since I joined Radio 2, and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me.”Mills was sacked from the BBC last month after it was discovered he had been the subject of allegations of 'serious sexual offences' against a teenage boy under 16

Having spent seven successful years on the Teatime Show, Cox is eager to bring her signature warmth, humour, and fun to the Breakfast Show, promising “excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests.”

BBC Radio 2’s Head of Music, Helen Thomas, praised Cox’s appointment, calling her “adored by millions of listeners” and “one of the most cherished figures on Radio 2.” Thomas added, “She captured the hearts of the country last November, raising a staggering £11.5 million for Children in Need on her Great Northern Marathon Challenge and thoroughly deserves this gig.”Cox is close friends with Mills and worked alongside him at Radio 2 and Radio 1 for years; Pictured together in 2014

Cox’s rise to prominence began in 1999 when she joined BBC Radio 1, quickly gaining popularity as a weekend presenter before becoming the host of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. After her move to Radio 2 in 2011, Cox went on to present several shows, including the much-loved Sounds of the 80s.Woman in a green dress sitting in a radio studio with a microphone and a BBC Radio 2 screen.

In the wake of Scott Mills’ sacking, which followed allegations dating back to the late 1990s, Cox’s appointment marks a new chapter for Radio 2’s Breakfast Show. The BBC’s decision to part ways with Mills came after new information was discovered regarding the historic allegations. Mills has since spoken out, expressing his gratitude for the support from friends, colleagues, and listeners.Scott Mills wearing sunglasses, a white cap, and a black jacket.

Cox, who is known for her cheerful, relatable style, is set to bring her personal touch to the iconic morning programme, and fans are eager to see what she’ll bring to the Breakfast Show when it launches this summer.
