Scott Mills Takes on BBC After Shock Firing: “My Life Has Been Ruined”

Radio 2 host Scott Mills is taking legal action against the BBC after being axed in March over historic sexual abuse allegations, sources reveal to The Mail on Sunday. The 53-year-old presenter, who hosted BBC Radio for 28 years, says he was unfairly dismissed after new information came to light regarding decades-old claims that had previously been dropped due to lack of evidence.

Friends say Mills feels like a “scapegoat” in the wake of the broadcaster’s zero-tolerance approach following recent high-profile scandals involving Huw Edwards, Gregg Wallace, and Jermaine Jenas. One source told Katie Hind: “Scott is devastated, but he is also furious. He has lost not just his job but something he loved. Decisions like this ruin lives, and this one has ruined Scott’s.”

The BBC confirmed the termination, saying: “In recent weeks, we obtained new information relating to Scott and we spoke directly with him. As a result, the BBC acted decisively in line with our culture and values and terminated his contracts.”

Mills had previously cooperated fully with a police investigation dating from 1997–2000, which was closed the following year. Friends claim the current management was unaware of the age of the alleged victim at the time, leaving Scott feeling wronged and determined to clear his name.

Supported by his husband Sam Vaughan, Mills has been keeping a low profile since leaving the airwaves but has recently been spotted walking his dog, as he prepares to fight the BBC legally to restore his reputation.
