“Some days I just need my dad. Oh dad, I miss you so much” – Kym Marsh’s raw heartbreak after her father’s death

Kym Marsh has shared a deeply emotional message about how much she still misses her father, 18 months after his passing.

The former Coronation Street actress, 49, took to Instagram with a throwback selfie of herself and her dad David Marsh, who died in January 2024 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Alongside the smiling snap, she wrote: “Some days I just need my dad. Oh dad, I miss you,” adding several broken heart emojis.

David’s death was confirmed in a family statement at the time, which described him as “a much loved husband, dad, grandad, great grandad and friend to many.” The statement continued: “David passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. We are truly heartbroken and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.”

Kym had previously revealed that her father delayed seeking medical help during the pandemic, and by the time he was diagnosed in 2021, the cancer had already spread to his pelvis and spine. Speaking openly at the time, she admitted: “Doctors are talking about it being incurable, but it is treatable, and the hope is that they may be able to extend his life – but by how much, nobody really knows.”

Her grief has been compounded in recent weeks with the loss of her cousin Carl. In a moving tribute, Kym described him as “the kindest, funniest, most unique person I’ve ever known” and said his passing had left “a huge hole in our lives that will never be filled.” She recalled their childhood holidays together and said she would miss him “until the end of time.”

Despite her sorrow, Kym shared that she knew Carl would have wanted her to stay strong, adding: “I know you’d be telling me to stop being a silly arse and stop crying.” She ended her tribute with the words: “We will love you forever and always. Sleep tight.”
