SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. (WKRC) – A teen allegedly ripped a license plate off an American muscle car after causing a fatal crash on I-75.
According to WESH, citing the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 17-year-old boy was tracked to a chicken coop and arrested after he allegedly caused a fiery crash on I-75 southbound, which resulted in several injuries and another teenage boy losing his life.
Troopers told the outlet that the boy was behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger and driving “at a high rate of speed” when he “overtook slower traffic and took evasive action to avoid a collision.”
WESH’s report states that the Charger struck a tree and burst into flames.

“Following the crash, the driver exited the vehicle, removed the license plate and fled afoot,” troopers told the station.
Troopers and deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office managed to track the suspect to a chicken coop on 111th lane in Sumter County, Florida, and he was placed under arrest, the outlet reported.
According to WESH, the driver and four passengers were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, where one passenger, a 16-year-old boy, died.
The following passengers were involved in the crash:
- 13-year-old boy (minor injuries)
- 15-year-old boy (serious injuries)
- 16-year-old boy (fatal injuries)
- 17-year-old boy (passenger/minor injury)
The suspect is facing several felony charges, which include vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
