The beloved ITV quiz show The Chase has been hit with a delay in filming as star Shaun Wallace, aka The Dark Destroyer, was forced to take time off for knee replacement surgery.
Shaun, who has been a staple of the show since 2009, revealed the news of his surgery, explaining he’s been hard at work recovering. The 65-year-old quiz master is focused on getting back to his best as soon as possible, and he’s already planning to return to the ITV studios on March 17.
In an exclusive chat on the Royal Kennel Club podcast, Shaun shared, “I had the surgery about three weeks ago, and I’ve been training every day to make sure I’m ready. I’ve got to make up for lost recording time when I get back.”
Despite the health setback, Shaun’s spirits are high as he looks ahead to his packed schedule. “I’m in every day from then on. We’ll be launching Chase Around The World in May, and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.
Shaun, known for his sharp wit and unwavering confidence, also addressed the pressure faced by contestants on The Chase. He encouraged fans to have more empathy, especially when players make mistakes. “It takes courage to be on that show, and yet some people still mock contestants for not answering correctly or taking lower offers. To those people, I say: ‘Shut up. You’re not here. It takes guts!’”
As he prepares for his return, Shaun is eager to show that nothing, not even surgery, can slow down The Dark Destroyer. Fans can expect to see him back on set soon, ready to take on all challengers and bring the thrill of The Chase to millions once again.
