Heather Peace, the EastEnders star best known for playing Eve Unwin, has shared an emotional and hopeful update in her breast cancer journey — months after revealing that both she and her wife have been diagnosed with the disease.

The 50-year-old actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in October last year. Despite the devastating news, Heather made the courageous decision to continue filming for the BBC One soap throughout treatment, determined not to step away from her role.

Heather later underwent chemotherapy, a left-breast mastectomy, and reconstructive surgery, before beginning radiotherapy earlier this year.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the soap favourite shared a deeply personal update with her followers, announcing a significant turning point in her treatment.

“Final round of 15 radiotherapy sessions just completed,” Heather wrote.
“This marks the end of a long nine months of diagnosis, surgery, chemo and radio.

“Time to piece myself back together. Thanks for all the beautiful support.

The post quickly prompted an outpouring of love and admiration from fans.

One supporter commented: “What an amazing woman. Her sheer will and determination to keep filming while battling this awful disease has been unbelievable.”

Another added: “What a legend — wishing her all the very best in her recovery.”

A third wrote: “As someone going through a similar diagnosis, seeing Heather on the other side of treatment is incredibly inspiring.”

Heather’s update comes just days after she revealed further heartbreaking news — that her wife, Ellie Dickinson, has also been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Speaking to The Mirror, Heather explained that Ellie’s diagnosis came just as she was preparing to start radiotherapy herself.

“Her breast cancer was a smaller but aggressive lump,” Heather said. “So she had a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy.

“Then I come along with my 12cm lump — absolutely ginormous — mastectomy, chemotherapy, and about to go into radiotherapy.

“She’s like, ‘Even that you have to do bigger.’ And it’s like, ‘Hold my beer.’”

Despite the emotional toll, Heather has continued to show remarkable resilience — something she credits to her determination to complete key storylines on EastEnders.

She previously revealed that she filmed major scenes, including Eve Unwin’s wedding to Suki Panesar and dramatic poisoning scenes involving Nish Panesar, just hours after receiving her diagnosis.

Speaking on Gaby Roslin’s podcast, Heather admitted her decision to keep working was driven by fear — and a desire for closure.

“We got back to Brighton at seven o’clock,” she recalled. “And I was on the road at ten past five the next morning to Elstree, to start possibly the two biggest weeks I’ve done on EastEnders.”

Heather said she informed producers of her diagnosis and was reassured she could take time away if needed — but she insisted on continuing.

“I said, ‘I need to come in,’ because at that point I didn’t know what was going to happen,” she explained.

“I wanted to finish this arc of the story. Not coming in for two weeks wouldn’t change anything, but at least let me put a full stop on something that’s been playing out for nearly two and a half years.”

She added: “If we got to the end and saw them get married and successful, then whatever happened beyond that, I could leave knowing I’d finished the story.”

Now, having completed 15 rounds of radiotherapy, Heather says she is focused on recovery, reflection, and rebuilding — supported by her family, her EastEnders co-stars, and fans who continue to rally behind her.
